Ranner the Beautiful Prince a Short Story by Pulitha Jayasinghe

Once upon a time, there lived a strong deer. His name was Ranner. Ranner was the most beautiful prince in the herd. Other deer in the herd helped him to do lots of things. Ranner also worked very hard and helped his friends too.

One day Ranner and his herd went out to find food. While they were walking, they came into a massive lake. There were very beautiful things around the lake like colourful butterflies and lovely little birds singing songs. Ranner was very proud of himself for seeing them all. Then they came home. They had a good supper.

The next day, when Ranner went again to find food he heard a strange noise near the lake and he looked around. He saw a hunter hiding behind a bush to kill him. Just before the hunter was going to kill Ranner another person came and said

do not kill this deer, he is the prince of the herd’.’

So the hunter did listen and ran away into the jungle. Ranner was safe. The prince shook his head to the person who saved his life just to say thank you and went back to his herd.
