SOUNDGARDEN.

What I am about to talk about today may come as a surprise to you. For the followers of my articles, you would’ve noticed most music I’ve listed was either early 90s or prior. In today’s article I’ll be talking about Soundgarden, a band that has been active since 1984 but became prominent in the 90s.

The prominent members of the band were Chris Cornell (vocals), Kim Thayil (lead guitar) and Hiro Yamamoto (bass). Scott Sundquist joined as the drummer in 1985 to allow Chris to focus on the vocals.

CHRIS CORNELL.

Sadly for the band, Chris Cornell took his own life in May of 2017, after a long battle with depression, anxiety, panic attacks and agoraphobia. He was only 52. Though he left the music community too soon, he left behind some great hits.

Black Hole Sun.

I will list a few of his hits for my audience to listen to and enjoy as well. In number one, I have , ‘Black Hole Sun.’ Released in 1994, this song rose to the top charts On the Billboard mainstream rock tracks charts, it reached No.1 and remained a top song for seven weeks after the release. Though the song doesn’t have a clear meaning, most fans refer to it as the song that represents starting the world over after washing away everything and removing corruption.

Outshined.

Second, I have, ‘Outshined,’ released as part of the Badmotorfinger album of 1991, this song explores in depth extremes of insecurity, depression and self-doubt. It has a very low bass tone and sounds like something you’d want to listen to at the gym when trying to go for a personal best.

Fell on Black Days.

The third and last one I’ll be talking about it, ‘Fell on Black Days.’ It explores again the theme of depression but with an onset without a trigger or obvious signs. He has said it is like everything on the surface is fine but the mind has completely shifted. Though this song and the other two I have mentioned talk about depression, they are not depressing songs when you have them in the background and are listening to them.

I hope you have enjoyed reading about Soundgarden and I hope you go and check them out. They have released over 75 tracks! They sure do know how to make a good bass line and a nice beat.
