ශ්‍රී LankaNZ is a free distributed Sri Lankan Community Newspaper that aims to reach a Sri Lankan population of over 18,000 all over New Zealand. The demand for entertainment in literacy media itself gave birth to ශ්‍රී LankaNZ

Weerasundara is a name that is famous not only with Cricket in Wellington but also at National Representative Stage.  Kevin started his journey with ‘Bat & Ball’ when he was as young as 5 years growing up in a Sri Lankan family where everyone had so much passion for Cricket that bred him into such a talented Cricketer himself.

I have seen this young boy with his Dad (Duminda) or Ivan Tissera that moulds great Cricketers or now a days, drives on his own with his mates and comes down to Sky Stadium clocking hours @ Nets working tirelessly to achieve his goals.

Kevin is a Right Hand solid Middle Order Batsman that comes into Bat at No 5 and Bowls some ripping Off Break that can leave the Opponent Teams bamboozled.

Kevin’s Cricket pathway had a great foundation at the well-established Cricket School, Wellington College where he achieved many accolades.

  • Captain of the Wellington College 1st XI
  • Playing Wellington College 1st XI for 3 Years and reaching 100 games for 1st XI ( First one to do so)
  • Leading Wicket Taker for Wellington College of all time
  • Made the Honours Board with 107* against Napier Boys with the Bat

Continuing with his success story at School Cricket he has further this to represent Wellington and played Wellington Under-17s (2019/20) and Wellington Under-19s (2021/22). Kevin’s promising talent kept him in New Zealand Cricket selectors radar and was called up for New Zealand Development Team quite recently. I am sure this is such a dream come true in any young Cricketers journey in New Zealand.

His highest achievement so far is playing for New Zealand Development Team and being the Top Wicket taker for National Under- 19 Tournament. Last season Kevin scored about 900 runs and bagged around 95 wickets.

Kevin, it gives us great pleasure to write this article and seeing you grow to this level. I am sure the whole Sri Lankan community in New Zealand, Sri Lanka and elsewhere is Super Proud! of your achievements so far. We wish you all success in your Cricket as well as University life you have embarked on.
