Health Properties of Turmeric

Opinion: Turmeric is one of the best home remedies with multiple health benefits.
Turmeric is a common spice used by most Sri Lankan families in our day-to-day   cooking. It is used in many Sri Lankan dishes and is also used as an anti-bacterial.
Turmeric is one of my family’s first go to home remedies. There are many health benefits of Turmeric and multiple research papers are available online on the benefits of its use.
Turmeric is a natural herb and it has a close relationship to the ginger family. It is a very good Antioxidant, Anti-microbial, Anti-inflammatory and is an Antiseptic (Anti bacterial).
Turmeric is good for immunization building. It has an enzyme called curcumine, which increases the production of white blood cells in our body that can fight bacteria, virus and other pathogens.
How to take:
1 cup of hot water or natural milk
1 teaspoon of pure turmeric powder
1 teaspoon of lemon juice
¼ teaspoon (three pinches) of black pepper powder
Mix all together, keep for 5 minutes and drink once daily in the morning or before going to bed.
This can be used as a detoxifier that helps clean the liver and prevents liver damage. It is also good for skin diseases and it increases the elasticity of the skin. Turmeric kills cancer cells in our body, it can prevent prostate cancer. Arthritis, diabetes (type 2), high blood pressure are very common among the old and the young, turmeric has multiple health benefits for these patients.
A cup of turmeric a day can help reduce bad cholesterol in blood (LDL). It is ideal for weight loss and to maintain a lower body mass index (BMI).  Aging process is regulated through the use of turmeric.  Tumeric increases brain energy and can benefit anxiety, depression and alzheimer.
However, it is best to keep in mind that over use of anything can harm our body.  Too much intake of turmeric will increase gallbladder stones and kidney stones. It acts as a blood thinner and should not be taken with blood thinning medication. Anyone taking any type of regular medication should consult his or her GP before using the recipe above.  It is not good for pregnant and breast-feeding women. Too much use of the recipe can reduce fertility among males.
