In an impressive feat of skill and determination, Sri Lankan Kiwi Vethara Aloka has left her mark at the New Zealand Taekwondo National Championship 2023, held in July 2023 in West Auckland. From Auckland, Vethara’s journey into martial arts has showcased her exceptional talent.

Devoting two years to her practice, Vethara’s hard work paid off remarkably. The championship gathered 315 participants from across New Zealand, representing all six regions including Auckland North, Counties Manukau, Midlands, Central Region, Wellington, and the South Island.
Vethara showcased her prowess in Sparring and Patterns, clinching gold medals in both categories, a testament to her unwavering commitment and dedication.

Beyond the medals, Vethara’s achievements were truly outstanding. Her excellence earned her recognition as the second-highest performing female in the yellow belt category, showcasing her role in breaking gender stereotypes in martial arts.
A glance back shows that Vethara’s success wasn’t a one-time feat. Earlier this year, she was exceptional at the Regionals and the Star Series tournaments. Competing as a yellow belt, she stood out as the top female contender in her category, showcasing her consistent excellence.
