Southland Sri Lankan Society Hosts Its First-Ever Halloween Party at SIT Hansen Hall
On 27th October, the Southland Sri Lankan Society (SSLS) held its first-ever Halloween themed event at SIT Hansen Hall – Invercargill, offering a fun-filled day for Sri Lankan children and families living in Southland. This inaugural celebration brought together the community in a vibrant and festive atmosphere, complete with a range of activities that kept the young participants engaged and entertained. The SSLS event was thoughtfully designed to create lasting memories for children and to foster community bonds among Sri Lankan families in the area.
The day was packed with interactive stations, where children enjoyed face painting, balloon artistry, and hands-on cookie and cupcake decorating with Halloween-themed designs. One of the highlights was the lively trick-or-treat corner, where children enthusiastically explored the hall in their costumes, gathering treats and experiencing the magic of Halloween in a warm, inclusive setting. These creative activities allowed children to showcase their artistic talents and enjoy festive traditions in a welcoming environment.
The event concluded with a cozy movie night, followed by a light dinner, providing families with a relaxed atmosphere to socialise and unwind. Parents expressed appreciation for the SSLS executive committee’s hard work and dedication, with many praising the event for bringing the Sri Lankan community together in a new and exciting way. “Our kids had an incredible time, and they didn’t want the party to end,” one parent shared, highlighting the event’s success. Others commended the SSLS for its commitment to creating family-friendly gatherings that strengthen community ties.
This Halloween event marks a significant milestone for SSLS, as it ventures into new territory to offer diverse cultural experiences to the Sri Lankan community in Southland. The executive committee is proud of the positive response and looks forward to planning more events that celebrate Sri Lankan heritage, foster friendships, and provide opportunities for families to connect and enjoy meaningful experiences together.
