As a sports writer engaging with SriLankaNZ’s from 2024, I was deeply moved by how this magazine has created a space that truly vibrates like home. From the moment you browse SriLankaNZ.co.nz or open its bi-monthly print edition, distance fades away , our connection to the motherland is revived through stories, traditions, and the voices of the Sri Lankan diaspora across New Zealand.
Having migrated to New Zealand in 2024, with a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology from the University of Colombo and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Gloucestershire (UK), and now working in digital transformation projects, I often felt a quiet disconnection from home. SriLankaNZ changed that. It gave writers like me a platform to rediscover our roots, rekindle our love for sport, our people, and our culture.
Just like Murali taking his run-up to deliver a moment of magic that lifts millions of Sri Lankans to their feet, SriLankaNZ offers space and hope to a nation divided by war,race, color, and challenges, yet never surrendering its deep, unwavering love for the motherland.

‘Contributing in Broadcasting, Media and Technology…’
Dr. Amal Punchihewa in Palmerston North, an IT professional who writes to us regularly on the use of IT and the Ai development, mentions;
‘I offer my best wishes to the ශ්රී LankaNZ Community Newspaper on this special occasion of the paper. In an era of drastically changed media and information consumption habits, compiling and sustaining a Newspaper, and distributing it without charge are extremely challenging. The works and efforts of the team need to be commended.

හැමිල්ටන් වයිකාතෝ සරසවියේ තාක්ෂණික අධ්යයන අංශයේ ආචාර්යය නන්දන පතිරගේ කෘතිම බුද්ධිය හා එහි යහපත හා දරුවනට ඇති අවධානම ගැන ලිපි පෙළක්ම ඉදිරිපත් කරමින් සිටී. ඔහුගේ අදහස් වලින් කොටසක්-
මෙම පුවත්පතේ පස්වන සංවත්සරය වෙනුවෙන් මාගේ හෘදයාංගම සුභාශිංසන පිරිනමමි. ලේඛකයකු ලෙස මෙකී පුවත්පත සමඟ පෞද්ගලික ව මට ඇත්තේ අර්ථවත් සබැඳියාවකි. පරිගණක තාක්ෂණයේ නව සංවර්ධනයන්, විශේෂයෙන් ම කෘතිම බුද්ධිය මිනිසුන්ට, රැකියාවලට සහ සමාජයට බලපාන ආකාරය ගැන ලිවීමට මට මෙය වටිනා වේදිකාවක් වී ඇත. මෙම ලිපි හරහා, නවසීලන්තයේ ශ්රී ලාංකික ප්රජාවේ දැනුම්වත්භාවය හා අධ්යාපනය ඉහළ නැංවීමට යමක් කළ හැකි වූ බව මාගේ විශ්වාසය යි.
මෙවැනි ප්රජා පුවත්පත්, අපගේ සංස්කෘතිය, භාෂාව සහ පොදු වටිනාකම් සුරැකීම සහ නවසීලන්තය පුරා ශ්රී ලාංකිකයන් අතර සහසම්බන්ධය පවත්වා ගැනීම සඳහා ඉතාමත් වැදගත් කාර්යභාරයක් ඉටු කරන බව මම විශ්වාස කරමි. මෙම කණ්ඩායමට ඉදිරි වර්ෂයන් හී ද සාර්ථකත්වයෙන් යුත් එකමුතු වූ ගමනක් ප්රර්ථනා කරමි.

‘….unites us and strengthens our shared identity…’
Dr. Rohana Ulluwishewa, Palmerston North, writes to us a series of articles mainly on spirituality with scientific explanation. In his message he mentions;
‘As Sri LankaNZ proudly celebrates its 5th year with the upcoming issue, I feel honoured to be a regular contributor to what I truly consider ‘our newspaper’ (අපේ පත්තරේ). Writing for it is a joy and a meaningful way to serve our Sri Lankan community in New Zealand. This newspaper unites us and strengthens our shared identity. කිවි දේශයේ ලාංකිකයන්ට කියවීමට ඇති එකම පුවත්පත.
‘පුස්තකාලයක කෙටිකතා පොත් තැබිය යුත්තේ කවි පොත් සමීපවය,’ යි කියමනක් ඇත. ඕක්ලන්ඩ්හි ප්රියන්ති ඕපාතගේ ඇතැම් කවි රචනා, අදහස අතින් කෙටි කතාවලට සමීප වූ අවස්ථා ද ඇත. ‘ශ්රී ලංකන්ස්’ ගැන ඇය මෙසේ පවසයි. ‘ශ්රී ලන්කන් පුවත්පත (ශ්රී LankaNZ) යනු උපන් දේශයෙන් බැහැරව ජීවත්වන කිවි ලාංකිකයන්ට කියවීමට ඇති එකම පුවත්පතවේ.
අප වැනි ආධුනික කවියන්ට ලියන්නට මනරම් තෝතැන්නක් ලබාදෙමින්, අපගේ නිර්මාණ අගය කරමින් කරනු ලබන සේවයට කෘතවේදීව ස්තුතිවන්ත වෙමි.’ ඔබගේ ප්රජා සත්කාරයන් ඉදිරියටත් කරගෙනයාමට ශක්තිය, දිරිය, වාසනාව ලැබේවා’යි ඉත සිතින් පතමි.
